Congrats! Do you have any good recipes for artichoke? I guess I am not sure what to do with one.

Thanks, Holly ... the success is hard won.

As for recipes, Prairie Chick, the only way I've ever eaten one is by steaming it for 30-40 minutes and then dipping the bottom, fleshy part of the leaves in melted butter. The "treat" comes at the end when you scoop out the "choke" and you are left with the artichoke heart which is particularly tasty dipped in melted butter.

Good luck with overwintering them, Leslie. I too planted Green Globe last year, and only one of 3 plants made it over the winter. (I had buried them in more soil, then leaf mulch, then leaves, holding down the mass with burlap sacks.) I kept the covers on them a long time, too, knowing the risk of late frost; next year, I will take it off sooner as the plants had poked their way up like a cat under the covers. Only one of my 3 cardoons made it, too. Just as well, as both plants were HUGE this year.
